Building an Ecosystem Around a Human Challenge

How people, tools, relationships, scenarios, knowledge, services, and opportunities can work together instead of separately.

Most responses to a human challenge arrive as a single intervention: a workshop, a policy, a platform, a hire. Single interventions are easy to procure and easy to evaluate, and they frequently fail because the challenge is held in place by several things at once.

An ecosystem is the intentional combination of people, tools, relationships, knowledge, scenarios, services, and opportunities assembled around one real challenge. Each element does something the others cannot.

A tool gives structure to a conversation. A relationship makes the conversation safe. A scenario provides rehearsal. A service brings outside capacity. An opportunity gives the new behavior somewhere to go, which is often the missing piece.

The composition is not fixed. It changes according to what the person, organization, or community is experiencing, and it is revised as the situation moves.
