Using One ZERA Card to Open a Difficult Meeting
A simple, repeatable practice for beginning a hard conversation with reflection rather than defensiveness.

Difficult meetings usually begin at the point of disagreement. Everyone arrives already holding a position, and the first several minutes are spent defending it.
One card changes the opening. Draw a single ZERA Card, read it aloud, and give each person one minute to respond to the card rather than to the agenda. Nobody comments on anyone else's response.
The purpose is not warmth for its own sake. It is to establish, before the disagreement, that each person in the room is capable of reflection. That memory travels into the harder part of the conversation.
Keep it short and keep it consistent. A practice used once reads as a technique; a practice used regularly becomes part of how the group works.
